Rahma Sheikh
Marketing & Advertising
I’m responsible for creating marketing strategies, ensuring return on investment for clients, managing junior marketing executives, social media, SEO, Google AdWords, generating pitches and quoting clients. One of my top responsibilities is managing the marketing budget.
Everyday a team member comes to me with ideas that cost money and I need to consider every idea based on its merits and business case, and look at what we can afford. I also spend a lot of time content planning and talking to and managing our digital agency to make sure they understand our business goals.
Marketing is the intersection of creativity and business. I went into marketing management as I had previous marketing experience in high school, and then I went on to win critics choice awards for my work in publicity.
My mum was also in the marketing field and growing up I admired her for what she did, so I had an understanding of marketing from a young age. I’d suggest marketing [as a career choice] for anyone that wants to understand people better; if you’re looking to build a creative career that crosses with business, science, technology, and psychology, then marketing management is the perfect role.
My previous roles were at marketing executive level with varying levels of responsibility. I’ve always had lots of great ideas with a real drive to push things forward, so it was hard working with people who didn’t have the same level of ambition. So for me, marketing management is about being innovative all the time, keeping on top of trends and having responsibility for my own marketing function.
